Covered Bridge Ornament
The Covered Bridge was completed in 1860, the project of John B. Gohman who named his new establishment the Indiana Hotel, a typical stagecoach inn with four large sleeping rooms upstairs and a dining establishment on the lower floor.
The building served a variety of purposes over the next 161 years, including the first home of the Ferdinand News in 1906, a bakery, a barber shop, photography studio, and cobbler shop.
In 1931, Clarence F. Quante bought the building, renovated it and gave his new tavern and dance hall the moniker Covered Bridge. It changed hands several times but was owned for many years by Ollie and Nita Lueken. After the Lueken’s retirement, investors purchased the “Covered Bridge,” renovated and reopened it as an upscale restaurant in 2001.
